MODEL HISTORY

The third-generation Ford Thunderbird (1962) was produced from 1961 to 1963 and represented the “personal luxury car” concept. Compared to previous generations, it was larger, more comfortable, and technically more advanced, focusing on comfort and performance rather than sporty driving. The convertible version offered not only an open roof but also sophisticated engineering that was above standard for its time. The Thunderbird III was powered by a robust 6.4-liter (390 cu in) V8 engine, producing round 300 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and around 515 Nm of torque. The transmission was a three-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic, which, together with the rear-wheel drive and mechanical limited-slip differential, ensured smooth starts and seamless gear shifts. The chassis combined a solid frame with front coil-sprung wishbones and a rear solid axle with leaf springs, providing a balanced combination of comfort and stability. Brakes were drum-type on all wheels, assisted with a power booster, and the steering featured a hydraulic power assist for easy handling even at low speeds.

OUR CAR

Our car was added to the collection in 2017. It is fully functional and provides maximum pleasure. All of the chassis parts have been renovated, the shock absorbers and all of the bearings have been replaced, and the parts have been restored to their original luster. The car is painted in Maroon Red. The rear seats were equipped with belts to allow the transport of our small family members.
