MODEL HISTORY
Jaguar XJS is one of the true icons of British automotive history. Introduced in 1975 as the successor to the legendary E-Type, the XJS represented a new interpretation of the Jaguar grand tourer – focused on refinement, comfort and effortless performance. Over more than two decades of production (1975–1996), the XJS earned its place as a classic, becoming one of the longest-produced models in the brand’s history.
Available as both a coupé and a convertible, the XJS combined elegant design with advanced engineering. While early cars were famous for their V12 engines, the later models benefited from the highly regarded 4.0-litre inline-six AJ16 engine, known for its smooth power delivery, reliability and refined character – perfectly suited to relaxed long-distance driving.
To mark the end of the XJS era and celebrate 60 years of Jaguar Cars, the manufacturer introduced the special “Celebration” edition in 1995–1996. This final version represented the ultimate evolution of the XJS, combining proven mechanical excellence with enhanced luxury and exclusive styling details.
The Celebration edition featured a higher level of standard equipment and distinctive touches such as premium leather upholstery, elegant wood trim, special alloy wheels and refined exterior accents. These elements emphasized the car’s luxurious character and made the Celebration models particularly desirable.
Today, the Jaguar XJS 4.0 Convertible Celebration stands as a true modern classic – a stylish open-top grand tourer that offers timeless design, refined performance and growing collector appeal. It is not only a pleasure to drive, but also a meaningful piece of Jaguar heritage.
